Advanced compression allows for more install media options

• Consolidating resources, compressing, and removing the excess makes the download time and install size very small.
• An install size with tauri just 2% the size of a comparable electron app.

Prepackaged Virtual Machines now available

• Visual DOS 2024 now comes in a downloadable binary for macOS, Windows and Windows on ARM.
• This copy requires 6-8 floppy disks to install.

We’ve added an new keygen command that uses the latest state of the art large language model technologies at our datacenters to create incredibly secure keys you could never create

• New command: keygen. Type man keygen for instructions.
• This was actually in a previous update but we fired the developers to avoid paying them the developers left because no one wants to work anymore and any bugs or mistakes are their fault.

Dark mode support

• We know we took away customization and replaced it with one very specific style we approved of, but we are giving a little bit of control back with support for dark mode.
• Even though this isn’t comprehensive, new, or close to what you had before, we will advertise it as an accessibility break-through, write blog posts about it, and do interviews on it.

True icon-in-terminal support

• Finally replaced the emoji icons with actual icons: Lucid Icons by Midhil M
• It was always this way. Visual DOS always had cool icons. You are remembering incorrectly.

Target content improvements to surface relevant content to you because we know you better than you do.

• 26 additional puzzles from book quotes, if you wanted more puzzles. There are now 62 puzzles!

New Security features

• The game now has an ending. It’s over. We did it.
• End the game at the point you figure out how to end the game.

Fixes

Scroll buffer fixes

• Scrollbar images offset by a large amount of pixels. Horizontal scrolling was uselesss. Now fixed.

Drives no longer mount while typing the command to mount them. Incident has been reported to the US Department of Temporal Investigations

• Timing issue would show the drive start mounting before the animated text finished typing the mount command.

Graphical issues on obscure platforms have been fixed

• How the heck does Safari not still support SVG tranforms in 2024???
• Low DPI/High DPI screens more consistent.

Command verification echo has increase in accuracy

• The bit that repeats on screen as you type now shows your current directory. Ooops.

PWD returns the current directory and path

• It used to only return the current directory. Fixing this wasn’t a priority for us.

Sound card updates

• Added and improved sounds. New startup tone.

System updates

• Typo’s and backend fixes, consolidation where I crunch-copy-pasted code instead of doing it properly, off-by-one errors.

Additional OOC notes

• This game doesn’t use LLM. It’s not connected to a real life LLM, or server. It’s a game about AI. Allegedly.

• Also, no one was fired. I just forgot to add in keygen notes.

• Many changes were made. If your previous save gets wonky, you can start over using the command debug reset-game
